As the spirit lovers make love, they enter the worlds of the spirit animals, ancestors, the past, timelessness, and her body. When lovemaking is clearly wild and nonordinary it is a more like a ritual, and so we call it that. Of course all lovemaking can be seen as a sacred ritual so the separation is artificial but we think useful for now.
